What the strength on an alcohol-free wine label means
The three strength bands the EU sets for wine with little or no alcohol, on one scale, and how noalc shows them.
From 19 September 2027, EU rules sort wine with little or no alcohol into three bands. The band depends only on the strength printed on the label. This is the scale we use across noalc.
The three bands
- 0.0 %
- Strength of 0.05% vol or less, next to the words alcohol-free.
- Alcohol-free (up to 0.5%)
- Strength of 0.5% vol or less. On noalc it appears as "up to 0.5 %".
- Alcohol-reduced
- Above 0.5% vol and at least 30% below the minimum for its category.

On noalc wine pages
Every wine page shows the band as a red badge. Tap it for the full rule: Non-alcoholic wine and the law: what actually changed in Europe in 2026. To check a bottle yourself, see How to read the label on an alcohol-free wine.
